Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
