Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface from spring of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a decider.

The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
