Van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Run at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing the match official to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's side into third place in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

After a drab weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a massive concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two established centre-forwards - had scored only a single goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have tested the keeper.
